This is the 2nd part of our CBD concentration series.
In our previous blog, we learned that the concentration of CBD on your CBD oil label is expressed in milligrams, while the total volume, or content, of fluid in the bottle is expressed in milliliters, and the content of THC is given in percentages (as per legal requirements). In most cases, such as ICARIA’s, brands will put the concentration of CBD in a single unit, or a “dropper” to make calculating your dosage a bit easier.
How to Calculate CBD Content in Percentage?
If the CBD content of your CBD oil is in milligrams on the label, the way to know how much CBD is in one milligram is pretty easy. Take the total weight content of CBD listed on the label and divide it by the total volume of fluid in the bottle, and you will get your product’s concentration.
For example, if there are 1500mg of CBD in a 30ml bottle, then 1500/30=50mg in 1 ml.
However, even though most of the time we see CBD oil brands express their CBD concentration in milligrams per milliliter, there are cases in which both the CBD and THC content will appear in percentage (%). And it is no secret that we all have struggled with percentages at some point so, we totally understand if this is confusing.
Fortunately, if you understood how to calculate the concentration on your label already, with percentages it is actually easier. Let us take our THEIA 1500mg of CBD isolate as an example: the entire content of the bottle is 30ml and the content of CBD is 1500mg. But what if, instead, the label said that the concentration was 5%?
First, you need to remember that, when extracted from hemp, CBD is a solid compound that is fat-soluble. This means that there is a reason why most brands choose to express their CBD concentration in milligrams as it is a measuring unit for weight or mass.
All this is important because if the concentration of CBD on the label said 5%, our brains would probably choose to take the 5% out of the total fluid content, and you would then assume that there are 6ml of CBD per milliliter of fluid. And we would be wrong in doing this because, as we already know, a milliliter is a measuring unit for liquids and… CBD is measured in weight!
So, how can you know the content of CBD when the concentration is expressed in percentage?
To calculate the amount of CBD per milliliter take the percentage written on the label and multiply it by 10. Taking our previous example, if THEIA has 5% of CBD in a 30ml bottle, it means it has 50mg per milliliter.
5*10=50 mg/ml
Conveniently, 1 dropper in a 30ml bottle is 1 ml, which means 1 dropper will have 50mg of CBD as well.
To calculate the total amount of CBD per bottle the above number, the amount of CBD per ml, and multiply by the number of milliliters in the bottle, in our case 30ml.
50*30=1500mg/bottle
The result is 1500mg of CBD per 30ml bottles.
Final Words
We now know how to calculate the content of CBD when we are given the concentration in both milligrams and percentages. This is important because it brings us a step closer to figuring out our CBD oil dosage with more confidence.
At ICARIA we want to make your CBD oil journey as simple as possible because our mission is to make your life easier and for that reason, ICARIA CBD product has all the above numbers calculated for you on each of the product pages.
