We have all been there. In the car on what feels like the longest journey being tossed around in the backseat, when suddenly you start feeling dizzy, nauseous, uncomfortable and like you could be sick at any given moment. You felt fine before, aren’t hungover and there doesn’t seem to be a reason for it.
Motion sickness. It’s real and it happens to the best of us.
About 1 in 3 people are considered highly susceptible to motion sickness. And if motion is intense enough everyone will experience some form of motion sickness depending on the person’s tolerance.
So what does this have to do with CBD you ask?
CBD Oil For Motion Sickness – My Story
This weekend on a car trip which was about an hour drive, I experienced motion sickness just from sitting in the backseat. This isn’t something that happens often, yet has happened before. I immediately thought to myself “How can I make myself feel better?” and “I wonder if CBD would work?”.
My CBD that I brought with me was in the trunk and I was unable to reach for it. So I closed my eyes and attempted to mediate it away and do all I could to distract myself from the unsettled feelings inside.
I knew on the way back from the trip I would be sitting in the backseat again, so I thought I would give my CBD a try.
On the way back I set things up so I would take the CBD about an hour before getting into the car. I used ICARIA APHRODITE 1500mg and took .75ml (a normal dose for me).
I wanted to try this as an experiment to see what the difference was.
I sat in the same spot on the way back and documented what I was feeling. My motion sickness was a level 3 vs 7-10 on the way there and I was able to fall asleep for half of the trip.
I knew I had to look into CBD oil for motion sickness when I got home, so this is what I discovered.
How does CBD help motion sickness?
Motion sickness happens when our inner equilibrium is off balance. Whenever something changes (motion wise) quickly, we can experience motion sickness.
There is research to show that CBD helps with nausea, which is one of the main symptoms of motions sickness, thus making that car ride so much more pleasant. CBD blocks the release of chemicals that trigger nausea and vomiting.
Also CBD calms our nervous system down and reduces anxiety, another common symptom of motion sickness.
Something else to consider is that CBD oil can help your cat or dog to deal with car sickness as well. You can check out Loved Pet CBD oil if you travel a lot with your pet.
How to take CBD oil for motion sickness?
First and foremost, be prepared to take CBD oil and don’t forget it at home. Many of us don’t carry CBD oil with us and since we usually don’t get motion sick right away, we simply forget to take CBD oil with us.
Caution: Do not drive if you are taking CBD oil for the first time, as it might make you feel drowsy.
If you know you get motion sick regularly, then take your regular dosage of CBD oil 20 minutes before you start your journey. If you need help figuring out a dosage that is right for you check out this post.
If you start feeling motion sickness on your trip, take CBD oil under the tongue right away. Make sure to hold it under the tongue, as it will start working much quicker.
If you still feel nauseous, then take another dose of CBD oil.
Final thoughts
We all know the classic ways to help with motion sickness- ginger or gravol. Perhaps it might be worth trying out an alternative solution such as CBD oil which is holistic and might offer you a new way to support yourself when experiencing car, plane, train, boat or any type of motion sickness.
We recommend using a high quality CBD for this and finding a dose that works for you. Of course like with anything it might take a few times to find that bliss point in which will support you best. It is important to remember that when you buy a high quality CBD product you are investing in high quality ingredients which are safe for you to use.
CBD might just be your new best friend for road trips – might just be worth the shot!
