You may or may not have noticed that Nano CBD is now becoming a popular trend in the CBD industry. It can now be found on the labels of countless CBD products on the market.

But what is Nano CBD and why is it important? Does it really differ that much from regular CBD? Allow us to explain in the simplest, and least scientific, terms as possible.

What is Nano CBD?

In the most basic terms, Nano CBD is when a CBD molecule gets packaged or coated in carriers or very small particles. These can include things like liposomes or lipid (fat) nanoparticles. These carriers are super small or about the size of 100 nanometers (1 billionth of a metre).

These nanoparticles work to stabilize the CBD and transport it in the blood faster than uncoated or unpackaged CBD. This helps them to effectively reach the targeted tissue without being broken down.

We have also seen this process widely used in the pharmaceutical industry for a solid number of years. You could compare this to either liposomal vitamin C, which is rather common or even enteric-coated capsules, for example, probiotics.

Again, the purpose behind nanoemulsion is to allow for the main active component, or CBD, to get into the targeted cells in one whole package. This allows for less product to be wasted along the way.

This process also helps to significantly increase the bioavailability, or the ability of your body to absorb the CBD. This is because the particles are so small that they can be suspended in water. Thus, you should be able to feel the effects much quicker.

The Bottom Line: The technology behind Nano CBD is not new by any means. This method is being used to increase the absorption rate of the CBD into the tissues for improved effectiveness and results.

How Does Nano CBD Work?

The process of creating Nano CBD is supposed to make it easier for the body to absorb it at the source. However, there is evidence to suggest that when you take it outside of the laboratory, this is not necessarily the case in a practical sense.

This is due to the fact that there is not a lot of human data to refer back to at the moment. The research being done on cells seems to be promising, but we know that sometimes these results do not fully transfer when applied to the whole body.

In addition, nanoparticles are absorbed much quicker (in about half the time of regular CBD) which is awesome if you want fast results. That being said, the molecules also spend half the amount of time in your system when compared to regular CBD.

Considering that Nano CBD is more expensive, you could also just take a higher dose of regular CBD for a similar effect. Of course, it really depends on your personal health goals, and if you want faster results or a longer-lasting effect. We will dive into this deeper in the next section.

The Bottom Line: If you are using a topical CBD product or want faster results then Nano CBD will be a good option for you. However, if you are using a higher dose or want a longer-lasting effect, then regular CBD will be totally fine.

Should You Buy Nano CBD?

Nano CBD can be particularly useful for topical CBD products since it allows for quick symptom relief. The process of nanoemulsion is beneficial since the CBD has to be able to travel through the skin efficiently in order to work.

Another important consideration is the degradation of CBD. As soon as CBD is exposed to sunlight, airflow, humidity, and higher temperature, the potency can be affected. While most packaging is designed to protect against the elements, Nano CBD has an extra layer of protection. It is basically insulated by the nanoparticles to further prevent degradation.

That being said, the most concerning point is that bacteria grow much faster in Nano CBD products. The reason for this is that they use water as the carrier and not oil. Therefore, additional preservatives are needed to make it safe for consumption, while none are needed for a regular CBD oil. At ICARIA, we try to use as clean ingredients as possible.

In addition, the quality of the CBD itself also comes into play. That is why you really need to select a reputable brand. Nano CBD will make less of a difference with high-quality CBD and more of a difference if the CBD is of lesser quality.

The Bottom Line: There is still limited research to fully be able to say either way whether Nano CBD is that much better than regular CBD. Regardless, doing your due diligence and choosing a reputable CBD brand will definitely make a difference.

The Final Word

In our opinion, based on the research and customer feedback, we believe that Nano CBD has a specific time and place. That is why we have used it in our Nano CBD Face Serum and Nano CBD Roller. This allows for faster results and rapid symptom relief.

In any situation where CBD has to penetrate the skin, Nano CBD seems to be the more effective option as it can be absorbed much quicker. It also allows you to go for a lower concentration without sacrificing on performance.

The reason that we do not have Nano CBD products for internal consumption is that they are made using water as the main carrier. Therefore, they would need added preservatives to prevent the growth of bacteria. At ICARIA, we try to keep our products as clean as possible and we know that the preservatives for external use are much safer.

However, as soon as scientists have come up with a better way to package Nano CBD for internal use then we will surely offer that to you!
