CBD oil vs CBD capsules

The Difference Between CBD Oil and CBD Capsules

You may not know this yet, but there’s a big difference between CBD oil capsules and CBD oil, especially when it comes to their effects.

CBD capsules take some time to work. It has to pass through several organs first (especially the digestive system and the liver) before joining your blood circulation. CBD oil, on the other hand, is fast-acting since it bypasses these organs and goes directly into the bloodstream.

Read more to know about their difference as well as their advantages and disadvantages.

What is a CBD Oil?

CBD oil is simply CBD, which is an extract, suspended in a carrier oil like MCT oil, coconut oil, or olive oil.

How does CBD oil make you feel?

Well, it depends on why you use it in the first place. But whatever it is, you should notice an improvement in your health problems, whether it is pain, anxiety or sleep. CBD works by balancing your system out and thus decreasing the symptoms of imbalances that you are experiencing.

Many people prefer CBD oil for its fast-acting effects. You’ll typically feel the effects in just under 30 minutes, maybe even less than 15 minutes.

What does CBD oil look like?

CBD oil will look like the carrier oil that CBD extract is diluted in. So if you have CBD oil made with hemp oil, then it will have a greenish color, and if you have CBD in coconut oil, then it will be see through or clear color.

What does CBD oil smell like?

Similarly to the color of CBD oil, the smell of CBD oil will depend on the carrier oils as well as other additives. Full-spectrum CBD oil can also have a little bit of “cannabis” scent to it, while CBD oil made with isolate doesn’t have any particular smell.

When choosing a good product though, it’s best to stick with CBD oils that have a natural scent and flavor. The fewer additives the CBD oil has, the better and purer it is.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of CBD Oil

CBD oil has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages:

  • It gives you control over serving size. You can easily adjust your dose based on your body’s reaction to CBD or your health needs.
  • It offers higher bioavailability. This means you’re absorbing more CBD since it directly enters the bloodstream.
  • It’s versatile to use. You can place it under the tongue or even add it to your favorite food. But doing the latter though reduces some of CBD’s potency. We’ll discuss this below, under CBD capsules.
  • It offers a great range of strengths and flavors. CBD oils come in varying potencies and flavors to choose from.
  • You can use it for acute symptom attacks. You can use CBD oil for anxiety, CBD oil for headaches, and even CBD oil for epilepsy, and it will offer a fast onset of relief.
  • CBD oil is vegan, while CBD capsules are often made with animal derived gelatin.

Disadvantages:

  • Taking CBD oil is not as discreet as ingesting a CBD capsule.
  • The dosages can be confusing to some, for that reason we created a whole CBD oil guide for you.

What is a CBD Capsule?

CBD capsules are simply CBD inside a gel capsule. The gelatin typically comes from animal protein or is derived from plants.

CBD oil capsules are usually ingested, unlike CBD oil which is placed under the tongue. Because it has to pass through the digestive system though, the effects can take a while (about 30 minutes to more than 1.5 hours).

Taking a CBD capsule can be simpler when it comes to dosing. This is one reason why some people are more comfortable taking it than CBD oil. However, one would need to take a higher dosage in a capsule than in an oil, due to the absorption.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of CBD Capsules

Similar to CBD oil, CBD capsules also have some advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages:

  • It has no flavor.
  • It’s more discreet to use and gives you an easy method of consumption. Just pop one in, and you’re done.
  • The effects of capsules may be slow-acting, but the effects can potentially last a little longer than the effects of oil. Let’s say for example you’re looking for CBD capsules for sleep in Canada because you can’t stay asleep, but you have no problem falling asleep, then you may want to take a capsule right before going to bed and enjoy better, longer, more fulfilling sleep.

Disadvantages:

  • They come in pre-measured servings. You’ll already benefit from CBD capsules, of course, but sometimes the dose may either be too much or may not be enough for your symptoms. In cases like this, taking CBD oil is better since you can easily adjust the dose.
  • It’ll take you some time before you feel the CBD capsules effects. Again, this is because CBD has to go through the digestive system before it joins the blood.
  • Because it takes some time before you start feeling its effects, CBD capsules for headaches, CBD capsules for epilepsy, and CBD capsules for anxiety may not be the best choice for acute symptom attacks. For symptoms that need immediate relief, you’ll benefit more from CBD oil.
